Paul Knobloch
Paul Knobloch was born in Canberra and graduated from The Australian Ballet school with honours in 1997. He joined The Australian Ballet in 2002 and rose to the rank of Soloist before embarking on an International career. In 2009 Paul took up the invitation to Join Béjart Ballet Lausanne as a Premiere Danseur and has performed all over the world with many distinguished companies including: The Australian Ballet, English National Ballet, Alonzo King LINES Ballet USA, Béjart Ballet Lausanne, West Australian Ballet and Sydney Dance Company. He has danced many principal and soloist roles in the works of celebrated choreographers and has performed on the most illustrious stages of the world including the Paris Opera Palais Garnier, London Coliseum and Tokyo Bunka Kaikan. Paul has built a strong identity as both a leading artist and choreographer and has a string of accolades to his name and in 2001 Paul was honoured to be awarded the Young Australian of the year ACT.
Throughout Paul’s career he has caught the eye of many renowned choreographers and has had numerous roles created on him as a dancer. Whilst with The Australian Ballet he began to forge a strong identity as both a leading dancer and choreographer, bringing his own voice to dance movement and has since been noted by critics for having a unique movement vocabulary based on the highly developed fusion of classical and contemporary dance. In 2006 Paul made his professional choreographic debut in collaboration with emerging Australian composer Anne Cawrse, together they brought forward the development of innovative new ideas for composition and dance resulting in “FourTune” which premiered at the Sydney Theatre as part of The Australian Ballet’s BodyTorque Face the Music season. In 2007 after receiving vast praise from both the public and press and making a bold impact with “FourTune” Paul was commissioned by David McAllister AM to create “Valetta” his first major creation for the main stage and has since created works for The Australian Ballet, Queensland Ballet, Ballet Victoria (Canada) and many leading schools and institutions across Australia, Europe, and USA. Paul has had many professional guesting appointments as a teacher working with companies across the globe including National Ballet of China, Sydney Dance Company, Bangarra Dance Theatre, LINES Ballet USA, Hong Kong Ballet and Les Ballet de Monte Carlo. In 2017 Paul returned to The Australian Ballet by the invitation of David McAllister AM to join the Artistic team as Ballet Master and after having developed a strong affinity for movement and music continues to bring innovation to dance by exploring his own voice as a choreographer.
