Alegria Dance Studio students | Choreography by Archibald Mckenzie & full-time students Music String Quartet no 1, 7th movement by György Ligeti

This piece was created especially for the gala by Archibald Mckenzie in collaboration with present full time students Amelia Perri, Olivia Shinfield, Klara Solomon, Alexandria Young, Mia Zanardo. The students of Alegria under the tutelage of Hilary Kaplan and Archibald Mckenzie are passionate about sharing their love of dance and were thrilled to participate in the gala; using their artform to give back and help in the fight against breast cancer.

This dance to me represents the voices of people calling out. Sometimes people can’t or choose not to hear and it can make you feel alone and isolated. Through choosing to listen we can form understanding and give each and every human a vibrant, loud and appreciated voice to celebrate. The fact that we’re alive is a miracle.

“Breath. A moment in time.”

The piece is about breath and a moment in time. Because that’s what I feel this year has been and for me I have made big changes during this time as well. The projection is symbolising breath.
